Common Questions about Laser Hair Removal

Here is a list of the common questions we are frequently asked about laser hair removal. if this section does not answer your question please get in touch or alternatively book a consultation where we will be happy to answer any queries

  • How does it work?

To achieve long lasting or permanent hair reduction, it is necessary to destroy the hair follicle from which individual hairs grow. Pulses of light are absorbed by one of the body’s own natural chemicals - melanin, in the hair contained in the follicle.

Melanin converts the light energy into heat. This heat is transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed, making it unable to produce a new hair. The treatment is only effective on hairs in the growth stage as these are still attached to the follicle. The majority of our hair is in the resting phase (hair in the skin but not attached to the follicle) which is why more than one treatment is necessary, ensuring all hairs are captured in the growing stage to provide the optimum results.

  • How many sessions do i need?

On average 6-8 sessions are required to permamently reduce the hair. This can vary per person depending on hormones, hair and skin type.

  • How often will my appointments be?

Sessions will be every 4-8 weeks apart depending on body part and how many sessions you have had.

  • What skin types does it work on?

Our laser machine can be used on all skin tones, the settings are tailored to safely treat each individual for the the best results.

  • Does it hurt?

Our machines use Crystal freeze technology which help create a virtually pain free experience. Some areas are more sensitive than others, and may feel a slight warm tingle.

  • Can you go in the sun or sunbeds after treatment?

Yes, but you will need to leave 10 days before and after treatment. This is to minimise any risk of hypo pigmentation to the skin.

  • Do i have to let my hair grow out?

No! You will need to shave the areas being treated the day before or the day of your laser appointment. Between sessions just shave as normal. No waxing, plucking, epilating or hair removal creams are to be used throughout the course of treatments.

  • Is it permanent?

Laser hair removal permanently reduces your hair. Results may vary per person as it is hormone related. Some people it may remove 100% and other may get some finer and fluffy like hair grow back due to hormones, the guaranteed results is 80%. This is the case with all laser hair removal treatments as it is dictated by your hormones.

  • Can i have laser treatment whilst pregnant?

No, you will need to wait 3 months post pregnancy to allow your hormones to regulate. Also, you cannot have laser hair removal whilst breastfeeding.

  • What is the difference between IPL and laser?

IPL produces a wide spectrum of light that shallowly penetrates the skin. This wide spectrum is diffused and does not target any specific aspect of the hair. Some wavelights of the light are absorbed by the hair while the rest are reflected away. Only some of the energy generated during IPL affects the hairs making it a less efficient method of hair removal than Laser treatment.

Laser produces a single concentrated wavelength of light that penetrates deeper into the skin to reach the base of the hair follicle. The wavelength used in laser treatment has been specifically selected to target the melanin in the hair follicle. Unlike IPL, laser uses a narrow beam.
